YouTube et Google Viacom shows his teeth. American Media Group, owner of Paramount or MTV network, today announced legal action against Google and its recent acquisition, YouTube, on the grounds that they broadcast on their respective services of video content it owns without permission . Viacom wants more than a billion dollars in damages and an injunction that would permanently end the practice. The group claims more than 160,000 videos made from its programs were uploaded by YouTube users, for more 1, 5 billion views.
"YouTube's strategy has been the attempt not to take proactive measures to stop infringements on its website Â" said Viacom in a statement.  "Their business model, which relies on building an audience and selling ads to content without explicit permission is obtained clearly illegal, and goes so obvious conflict with copyright laws ».
The group said that this complaint is made after many fruitless negotiations with Google. In early February, he publicly asked that all content posted on YouTube without his consent be removed from YouTube. Other content providers, such as the BBC, NBA, Time Warner and CBS have chosen to provide videos to YouTube in exchange for sharing advertising revenue generated by them.
