PayPal launches a virtual credit card generator
The  " Virtual Debit Card" allows to make payments without a bank account number or PayPal. In beta, it's free.
A small utility to generate, at will, valid numbers Mastercard account: the thing has the look of pirate tool. Unless proposed by the PayPal electronic payment specialist, in association with Mastercard. The Virtual Debit Card provision of some testers has ambitions to play the role of universal online account security.
Its usage is extremely simple. For each transaction, this generates a virtual credit card account number Mastercard. This is only valid for the current transaction. When buying next card will create a new number. No need to return his PayPal account number on a site that would not inspire complete confidence. The application works with any site that accepts Mastercard payments, a range far superior to those using PayPal.

The amount of purchases made with the virtual card is deducted from PayPal account. If the amount payable exceeds the balance of the latter, the money is withdrawn from another predefined account, your bank or credit services of PayPal. The eBay subsidiary has also provided a system antiphishing. Upon installation, the software asks you to define a  " security image" to draw on your own hard drive. It will appear each time you use a PayPal service. If this is not the case, the site where you are is therefore  " dangerous."
Seen from France, the principle of a virtual credit card is not new. Since 2002, the GIE with Visa card offers a similar service called  " E-card." The five banks are now providing their customers: LCL, Societe Generale, the People's Bank, Post Bank and the Savings Bank. But without much success.
This e-card is, indeed, pay. For example, at Societe Generale, it costs 6 euros and 50 cents per transaction. PayPal, He opts for free, at least for the beta-test. Registration for PayPal and then at Virtual Debit Card service are one and the other graceful and no payments will be taken during transactions. It is the merchant, not the client, who will pay the company.
