To better compete with Google and Yahoo, Microsoft wants to beef up its offer targeted advertising, announces the Wall Street Journal. The editor of Redmond takes up and deepens a method already used by Google with its Gmail service: he wants to cross the data of users of its Hotmail e-mail with requests in its search engine Live Search. By combining these two information, it intends to target more effectively the advertisements that appear on its pages, and thus attract more advertisers.
If a user launches a search for prices of cars in the Live Search engine, the Microsoft system will deduce that this person is looking likely to buy a vehicle, the U.S. daily said Chris Dobson, a director of the publisher . The same system will check if this user has a Hotmail account. If this happens, it will be possible to display advertisements corresponding to its current needs at future connections on a Microsoft page of the galaxy.
