Microsoft issues its security bulletin for December-06

Microsoft Update Each month, Microsoft released a security bulletin listing and correcting several flaws. This month, three critical updates are available and four important.

Critical Updates:

  • MS06-072: Cumulative Update for Internet Explorer. Several security vulnerabilities could allow remote code execution. The update applies to Windows 2000 Service Pack 4, Windows XP Service Pack 2, Windows XP x64, and x86 editions, x64 and Itanium Windows 2003 Server, with or without Service Pack 1
  • MS06-073: Critical Update for Visual Studio 2005. A vulnerability in the integrated development environment could allow remote code execution. Only the specific editions of Visual Studio 2005 are vulnerable: Standard, Professional, Team Suite, Team Edition for Developers, Team Edition for Architects, Team Edition for Testers.
  • MS06-078: Critical Update for Windows Media Player. A vulnerability in Windows Media Player could allow remote code execution. The update can cover both the media player and Windows Media Format (versions 7.1 to 9.5).

Important Updates:

  • MS06-074: important update for SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol). A vulnerability in this protocol could allow remote code execution. Ã € noted however that this protocol is installed by default on any version of Windows. Â This update day, potentially affects Windows 2000 Service Pack 4, Windows XP Service Pack 2, Windows XP x64, and x86 editions, x64 and Itanium Windows 2003 Server, with or without Service Pack 1
  • MS06-075: important update for Windows. A vulnerability exists in the way Windows starts some applications with a special manifest, and may allow a takeover of the remote system. For Windows XP Service Pack 2, Windows 2003 Server x86 and Itanium.
  • MS06-076: important update for Outlook Express. A vulnerability in the e-mail client could allow remote code execution, but a user action is required for the flaw being exploited. The update applies to Windows 2000 Service Pack 4, Windows XP Service Pack 2, Windows XP x64, and x86 editions, x64 and Itanium Windows 2003 Server, with or without Service Pack 1
  • MS06-077: major update to the Remote Installation Service. A vulnerability in this service could allow remote code execution. Ã € noted however that this service is installed on any version of Windows by default. Does that potentially affects Windows 2000 Service Pack 4.
