Firefox 3.0 Alpha Users who have just installed Firefox 2.0 may be surprised by this announcement, but the first alpha release of Firefox 3.0 is available for download. However, before moving to darken the fifth download this version, an explanation is necessary.
As an alpha release, let alone the first of them, Firefox 3.0 (which is codenamed Gran Paradiso, formerly Minefield) could be unstable. This is a test version in the strictest sense of the term is far from possessing all the features expected of a major new release. In fact, it still has virtually no: same interface, even managing bookmarks, extensions and themes, and so on. The biggest change is invisible but is the basis for future enhancements.
This is indeed the Gecko rendering engine. The first alpha of Firefox 3.0, in fact celebrates the first alpha version of the branch 1.9 of the rendering engine. Many improvements are planned, much to the safety and use of Cairo for rendering graphics on the sites. Cairo is an API (application programming interface) used to execute a vector rendering of graphics. Integrated with the Gnome desktop, it can use the equipment when necessary. We return now to a subject always topical: hardware acceleration of the display.

Mozilla developers indicate that this is the first alpha version of Gecko 1.9 and another version is expected in six to eight weeks, followed by a monthly or almost. The development of the branch 1.9 is therefore blocked until a fairly stable release was not obtained. When this will happen, resume development to give rise to what will most likely be the 2.0 branch.
This branch of Gecko 2.0 is Centrally "heart of the Mozilla project 2.0. When it is developing and the first Alpha version will emerge, it will be time to talk about Firefox 4.0, and significant changes that developers provide for this future version.
